Production nurseries

As a Horticulturist at Poyntons Nursery, you will play a key role in assisting customers, maintaining plant health, and contributing to the overall success of our nursery. Responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to the below:

• Customer Assistance: Provide expert advice and assistance to customers regarding plant selection, care and maintenance solutions. Address customer inquiries and offer personalised recommendations based on their gardening needs.

• Plant Maintenance: Monitor and maintain the health and appearance of nursery plants, including watering, fertilising, pruning, and pest control. Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any signs of disease or stress in plants.

• Inventory Management: Assist in the entire inventory management process, including receiving deliveries, stock placement and offloading. Maintain precision in labelling and organisation of stock. Communicate stock needs with Greenlife Buyer and Nursery Manager as required.

• Merchandising: Merchandise stock by organising plants logically, creating seasonal displays, using color coordination and varied heights for visual appeal, providing clear signage, and grouping related items together.

• Collaboration: Work closely with other horticulturists, nursery assistants, receivers, and management to collectively fulfill all nursery duties as required. This collaborative effort is essential to maintaining a cohesive and efficient operation within the nursery.

Skills and Experience:
● Post-secondary horticultural education (e.g. Certificate III in Parks & Gardens, Certificate III in Horticulture etc) is required.

●  Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a retail nursery is preferred, but horticultural experience in other environments will be considered. All candidates must be able to demonstrate how they have applied their horticultural knowledge and skills-set in previous roles.

● Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with customers and team members effectively.

● Teamwork: The desire to work collaboratively with others and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.

● Reliability: Punctual, responsible, and able to commit to a flexible work schedule, including weekends.

● Diligence: Able to follow processes and procedures in an organised and efficient way.

● Palpable sense of urgency and proactive work-ethic.

● Attention to Detail: Being observant to customer needs, accuracy in maintaining inventory levels and displaying a consistent focus to the task at-hand.
